The Haiyu glazing technique uses mainly vegetable ashes. The color depends on the type of ash used as a base. No metal is used to produce the color, so the finish is pale.

Mino yaki evolved from “Sueki” pottery, produced during the Heian period. These ceramics come exclusively from Gifu prefecture. Today, half of all Japanese ceramics produced are Mino ceramics, with the Tono region being the main production area.
